Why the ‘No White After Labor Day’ Rule is Total Bullsh*t

You know that pesky fashion “rule” that decrees thou shalt never wear white after Labor Day? Well, it’s time to toss it out the window once and for all. This is an antiquated mandate that countless designers and fashion stars have proved wrong during the past few seasons, by showing us white isn’t only appropriate when the weather turns chilly, but also amazingly fresh and modern when done right.

The big thing to keep in mind when tackling the white-in-winter trend: It’s all about the fabric. Light, inherently summery textiles like white eyelet, linen, canvas, and seersucker will look out of place during fall and winter, so be sure you’re reaching for white wool, denim, cashmere, fur, mohair, flannel, silk, and leather.

To prove that white not only can be worn after Labor Day, but absolutely should, take a look at the gallery that includes new ways to style white jeans, trousers, and shoes once we officially bid summer farewell.
